Al, born in Baltimore, Md. where his passion for music blossomed. Al's talent in spoken word poetry sprouted into a full on interest in creating music. Having a background of gospel singers in his family's church choir raised his interest in mixing singing with his quick witted tongue. Al's sound is rooted in hiphop but it's truly genre-less having influences such as Bob Marley, Marvin Gaye, The Beatles , Bobby Womack, Tupac, Andre 3000, Kid Cudi, Maze & Franky Beverly, and many others. Al has been working on the art of performing for years. He learned how to tap dance at an early age and also competed in dance battles as a pre-teen. When Al performs he's raw, energetic, and shows vulnerability.
If you ever get a chance to experience one of Al's live shows you'll notice him using the word 'Swooz'. Here's a little more behind that:
"Swooz is more then just a word in my urban dictionary, it's a way of life. I vowed when I first started penning song lyrics to be completely honest with everyone. I always wanted for the music I create to live on much longer than I will, something that will hold weight and help someone along in the future. Have you ever felt your best God given gift was helping others? We are more than our genetic make-up, that's nothing but a vessel. I believe we truly are all one. Love is infinite and I want to genuinely share it every chance I get. The Swooz is waking up in the morning knowing you can conquer whatever you set your heart on. We all are one but yet there is only one of us. Let's help build each other up and learn to be proud of individuality." - Al Rogers Jr.
Al has been featured in online publications such as Vice, Noisey, Impose, Saint Heron, and Pigeons and Planes to name a few.
