“People think that when you get to an apex, that the only place to go from there is down- the only thing you can do after an apex is negative. But that’s not true, we will reach the apex, and then crown it and what we create from that point will exist in perpetuity”.
Historian, producer, composer, lyricist, educator and one-third of SA-RA Creative Partners, Om’Mas Keith has been defying limits for years. Coming from a lineage of Jazz musicians, his father Michael Keith played with Lester Brown and was good friends with Miles Davis. At the age of three this New York native was a drummer and at 15, Om’Mas was interning at RCA Records. He went on to work with one of Hip-Hop’s legends, as a Universal staff producer for the late Jam Master Jay of Run-D.M.C. Born and bred by the greatest in Jazz and Hip-Hop, Om’Mas continuously reaches back to the past to unleash his “unrestricted creative flow”.
“If you’re looking for inspiration, look to the past, to the original foundation of hip-hop, that’s where it’s going to start”.
On the surface, Om'Mas might seem like a new kid on the block but his resume proves otherwise. Om’Mas has worked with artists like Lauryn Hill, Mobb Deep, Foxy Brown, Ice Cube, Onyx, 50 Cent, Kanye West, Dr. Dre, Andre 3000, Fergie, Jill Scott, John Legend, Will.i.am, Erykah Badu and Alicia Keyes.
With a mantra of studying the past to create the future, Om’Mas looks to James Brown, Bob Marley, Michael Jackson and Quincy Jones as some of his biggest influences. Visionaries and global brands, Om’Mas Keith and SA-RA Creative Partners follow the greats as they set the global stage on fire.
“The off-spring of the most powerful energy in the universe” also known as SA-RA is the product of musical geniuses Om’Mas Keith, Taz Arnold and Shafiq Husayn. Collectively the trio has been making artistic and creative statements since 2000 as musicians, producers and trendsetters. From winning BBC Radio 1s’ “John Peel Play More Jazz Award” at the end of 2004 to making Spin magazine’s list of top 20 albums of 2009 for “Nuclear Evolution: The Age of Love”, SRCP™ works to bridge the gap between musical worlds of differing scopes.
Lecturing with the Red Bull Music Academy and managing fresh musical talent, Om’Mas expands the SCRP™ brand and reaches out his hand to help aspiring artists. Also adding to his repertoire, Om’Mas Keith plays yet another role, offering his own off-beat sensibility as a judge on P.Diddy’s MTV reality show, “Making His Band”.
Om’Mas is now currently working on a solo record with Plug Research.
From Hollis to Hollywood, Om’Mas Keith creates music beyond categorical limits for all people.
