A transient place between past and future soul. Popular sensibilities defined by the very concept that sound should move us all.
Shannon Busch is a Melbourne based singer/songwriter who studied Jazz at the VCA. The moniker WILSN came about after graduating in 2013, when she first launched her own brand of soul driven tunes onto The Melbourne Fresh Showcase stage and placed 3rd out of 90 bands. Daniel Merriweather, who was there on the night, claims “Her voice stopped me in the hallway and I had to watch!” Since then she’s performed at many venues around Melbourne including The Toff In Town, Cherry Bar, Boney, Ding Dong Lounge, The Grace Darling and has played alongside many artists including July Days, Tales in Space, Soul Safari, Stonefield, Daryl Braithwaite, and JP Klipspringer.
CRAZY is the first single off her debut EP titled Maeflower. Produced by her long-time friend and collaborator, Alex Laska from Melbourne band KINGSWOOD, who says WILSN “has a natural inclination for song writing and a voice that pays tribute to the greats of the past and present from Etta James to Alicia Keys, from Billie Holiday to Frank Ocean."
Crazy received strong rotation on Triple J digital radio as well as reaching a prime position in the Triple J Unearthed charts and catching the attention of PBS 106.7FM. The track accumulated many reviews including Triple J’s Rosie Beaton who said "Very nice - floats along with a little groove and what a voice!” (triplejunearthed.com) and Dave Ruby Howe, also from Triple J, who said "Really slinky stuff. And a killer voice to boot” (triplejunearthed.com)
WILSN’S Debut EP “is an introduction to a world of future soul, as defined by one person's looking glass and characterised by honesty in melody and lyric” (Alex Laska - KINGSWOOD). The EP was launched to a 160 strong crowd at Melbourne’s iconic Cherry Bar. Supports on the night were the talented Leon Thomas and Sir Joseph (lead by Chris Mulhall from Vance Joy).
The second single from the EP, titled Limbo, has recently been released on triplejunearthed.com. Dan Wilkinson from hotndelicious.wordpress.com states “Just one listen will have you sailing away on an ocean of soul, love and beauty.”
WILSN is currently working on future releases with Producer Stephen Mowat (Matik) who produces artists such as Seth Sentry, Pez, Bliss n’ Eso, Drapht, Grey Ghost, Ali Barter and Cash For Gold.
